Abstract

The article provides a methodology for assessing the consequences of disasters of various genesis (natural, man-made), and also discusses the possibility of managing the consequences of these disasters in order to achieve sustainable development of the Arctic territories. A review of current Arctic development strategies adopted by various countries is given. The concept of disaster safety level index (DSLI) is introduced in relation to the problem under consideration. The conceptual plan for achieving sustainable development of the Arctic in the long term is presented.
